Set of the Week: Tan Lace Boyshort & Bralette

4/2/2020

Hello, sewing friends!  Yesterday I learned there was a problem with using PayPal on my website.  So if you tried to make a purchase and it didn't go through, I apologize.  It has been fixed now, and hopefully will keep working.

Just a reminder that through the month of April, 50% of the proceeds from the Tanja Boyshort will be donated to my local food pantry, the Harker Heights Food Care Center.  This is a difficult time we are living in, and I want to do my part and help those in need.

And now, here is another featured set of the week:

Patterns

Iris Bralette: this particular bralette is a prototype, and doesn't reflect the final shaping of the cradle.
Tanja Boyshort: Variation of Style C, using foldover elastic sewn flat instead of lace.

Fabrics

Nylon/spandex lace from Spandex World.  This lace has 40% length and crosswise stretch, which is the bare minimum stretch for the boyshort.

Bralette back band is Techsheen from Sew Sassy.

Trims

Bralette 1/2" strap elastic, 3/8" picot elastic, and 1/2" picot elastic are all from Fabric Depot Co.
Boyshort  fold over elastic is from Sew Sassy.

Style Notes

Boyshort: Due to using a fabric with the bare minimum amount of stretch (40%), the fit of the boyshort is quite snug and feels almost like shapewear.  This is the effect I wanted, and I plan to wear these boyshorts under summer dresses.  Since the fit is tight, I used the thinnest possible finish: fold over elastic sewn flat over the raw edges.

Bralette: This bralette was a prototype I made while developing the shaping of point of the cradle at center front.  I wanted to keep the cups separate, but the angles and amount of fabric made it impossible to add a lining and keep the seams enclosed.  Such is life when designing: compromises have to be made to balance style with comfort and ease of sewing.

That's it for today!  I have otherwise been busy sewing face masks for my family and friends.  I hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

Until next time, Happy Sewing!
